Ionesco's “Bald Diva” takes the stage across Germany with tickets available online at Pick a Seat

Eugène Ionesco's absurdist classic “Bald Diva” reunites iconic duo Haluk Bilginer and Zuhal Olcay, widely acclaimed for their performances in both Turkish and international productions. After selling out performances in Türkiye, the production is coming to five German cities this month.

Berlin — “Bald Diva” (Namely “Kel Diva” in Turkish), a celebrated work of abstraction and absurdist theatre by the French playwright Eugène Ionesco, will be touring Germany from 14-19 September. This production reunites Haluk Bilginer and Zuhal Olcay, two of Türkiye’s national treasures, who share the stage for the first time in years. Staged by Turkish Oyun Atölyesi, the play has sold out at every venue across the country and tickets for the German tour now available through pickaseat.com.

Directed by Muharrem Özcan, the production brings together a stellar cast in addition to Olcay and Bilginer, with Özlem Zeynep Dinsel, Yiğit Özşener, Gözde Kırgız, and Kıvanç Kılınç in supporting roles. “Bald Diva” is now one of the most popular offerings from Oyun Atölyesi, with its performances being eagerly anticipated in Germany.

The play features Mr. and Mrs. Smith, a typical English couple, who engage in nonsensical conversations with their guests, the Martins, leading to increasingly absurd and chaotic situations. As reality unravels, the play challenges the audience to reflect on the futility of logic and communication in modern life.

Ionesco’s play has been translated by Hasan Anamur and directed by Muharrem Özcan with decor and lighting design by Kerem Çetinel, costume design by Makbule Mercan, music by Tolga Çebi, and movement choreography by Utku Demirkaya.

During its tour, the play will be performed in Turkish in the following cities:

• Duisburg on 14 September
• Offenbach am Main on 15 September
• Berlin on 17 September
• Esslingen am Neckar on 18 September
• Mannheim on 19 September

The production has already earned several prestigious accolades, including the Afife Theatre Awards 2024, İsmet Küntay Theatre Awards 2024, and Yeni Theatre Magazine Labour and Achievement Awards, where it was recognized for Most Successful Actress of the Year.
